JUAN CARRANO
Hi there! I’m Juan Carrano from Savannah, Georgia. I am of Venezuelan-Italian descent and have grown up living in North Carolina, New York, Japan, Alabama, and Georgia. I am currently a senior at the Georgia Institute of Technology pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am set to graduate in May of 2022 and looking for full-time opportunities!
I am most passionate about work in aerospace, robotics, and mechanical design. My commitment to making a positive impact on individuals fuels my passion to come up with innovative ideas and excel in this team-oriented career field. I have gotten to work with various spacecraft, robots, and planes through my internships/co-ops with NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA Langley Research Center, and Gulfstream Aerospace. Additionally, I have experience with two different research labs working with precision machining and 3D-Bio manufacturing, respectively. I also have extensive experience in machining, manufacturing, and 3D printing and work as a Prototyping Instructor at the Invention Studio (student-run makerspace) on campus.
In my free time I love to play basketball, hike, and work on side projects apart from school. One of my more recent hobbies is rocketry. I am passionate about rockets and recently worked with some friends on designing, building, and launching our own rocket up to a height of 1,368 feet. I am also an avid traveler and I love to explore and experience different cultures throughout the world. During the summer of 2019 I participated in the Georgia Tech Lorraine study abroad program and got to visit over 10 countries! I am always looking for future projects and opportunities to learn more!

Design work in all of my internships and various school and personal projects
The first programming language I learned!
Lots of wood working equipment, sheet metal working, and soldering
Used to determine structural stability in my projects with NASA
Taught this to myself to improve my programming skills and explore projects with mechatronics
I’ve gotten to 3D print and post-process many of my CAD designs with several different kinds of printers
I use this all the time for school, work and research. I am certified up to Excel Level 2 through Gulfstream
Used at the Invention Studio to laser engrave and cut
Primarily worked with 5-axis Mazak for precision machining research
